Certified Short Sale Experts – Monthly Newsletter October 2026

The Rest of the Industry Is Now Waking Up to Short Sales. Are You Ready?

Short Sales Are Back and in the News – Everybody Is Finally Catching On!

For more than a year, we’ve been telling our Certified Short Sale Experts that short sales were coming back and that this was going to become one of the biggest opportunities in distressed real estate. Well, it seems the rest of the industry is finally waking up!

Over the past couple of months, we’ve seen an increasing number of articles appearing in major real estate publications explaining what short sales are, how to handle them, why they’re increasing and why real estate professionals need to prepare. Sound familiar?

This is exactly what we’ve been talking about in our training programs, webinars and newsletters for a long time now. What’s interesting is that many of these articles are written for agents who have never handled a short sale or who haven’t completed one since the last housing downturn.

They’re just beginning to learn what our CSSE graduates have already been studying and preparing for. There have been over a dozen in just the last two months or so – but here are some of the articles worth reading and sharing.

The numbers behind the headlines

According to Realtor.com’s July report, short sales increased now in three successive periods:

Year-over-year growth in short-sale transactions

Growth rates reported by Realtor.com.
These figures represent percentage changes, not the share of all home sales.

2025

That’s a meaningful change in direction, even though short sales right now still represent only a part of overall housing transactions.

We’re not yet looking at 2008 volumes, and no one should assume every distressed loan will turn into a short sale. But the important point is that the business is quickly moving in the direction we’ve been anticipating.

The opportunity is growing, the industry is paying attention, and the competition is beginning to prepare.

Which brings us to something that I’ve been emphasizing for months.
